Luis J. Echarte

Luis J. Echarte Fernández (born 23 April 1945 in Havana, Cuba) is a businessman who has developed his career in different companies. Echarte is vice president and Director of International and Public Relations of Grupo Salinas, (Mexico).
Biography
At the age of 15, a few months after Fidel Castro seized power, he was forced to leave his native country and emigrated with his family to Miami, United States. From a very young age Echarte worked in the family's real estate and construction businesses. There he took his first steps as an entrepreneur engaging in successful business activities as a contractor.
Echarte studied Science at the University of Florida’s School of Engineering and Architecture and Industrial Psychology at Memphis University. where he implemented a worldwide strategy for Bacardi's five companies in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Mexico, and Central and South America. Echarte also developed a range of new products and regional brands and expanded the company's market with extensive distribution agreements. Among the most important products he developed were Bacardi Tropical Fruit Mixers, which sold US$54 million a year and earned recognition from The Wall Street Journal as one of the best new products of 1986.
Echarte was Corporate Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Grupo Elektra, positioning and achieving tremendous recognition for the company worldwide. Echarte was also founder and CEO of the Azteca America Foundation, a non-governmental organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of the Latino community in the United States.
Within Grupo Salinas, he has also been the CEO of Azteca America, where he implemented the distribution and affiliation strategy with stations in 60 markets reaching 88% of the Hispanic population in the United States.
