Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning

The Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning (DRP) is a department of the County of Los Angeles.
Functions, history, and mission
The Regional Planning Department was established as an independent department in 1974 to be responsible for the planning function of unincorporated areas. Services are provided to the unincorporated areas of the county. The Department supports the Regional Planning Commission.
Regional Planning Commission
The staff of the Department of Regional Planning supports the Regional Planning Commission (RPC). The Commission was established in 1922, one of the oldest such bodies in the United States. The RPC has quasi-judicial decisionmaking power on land use matters, which are appealable to the Board of Supervisors. The Commission also makes recommendations on legislative actions (ordinances) that are approved by the Board of Supervisors.
The RPC has 5 members, appointed by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. Each Supervisor appoints one Commissioner and the Commissioner is approved by the entire Board.
Zoning code and ordinances
The Regional Planning Department reviews land use applications to ensure compliance with Title 21 (Subdivision Ordinance) and Title 22 (Zoning Ordinance) of the Los Angeles County Code and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

The County has a General Plan, three Area Plans, and many Community/Neighborhood and Specific Plans.

The current General Plan was approved in 1980. The Department of Regional Planning is currently engaged in updating the General Plan.

Antelope Valley Office: serves unincorporated communities including Acton, Agua Dulce, Elizabeth Lake, Leona Valley, Juniper Hills and Littlerock.
Calabasas / Malibu Office: serves unincorporated communities in Chatsworth, Malibu, the Santa Monica Mountains, and Topanga.
East Los Angeles Office: Se ofrece servicio en Español serves unincorporated communities including East Los Angeles and South San Gabriel.
La Puente Office: Se ofrece servicio en Español serves the unincorporated communities in Avocado Heights, Hacienda Heights, La Puente and Rowland Heights.

South Whittier Office: serves the unincorporated communities in the Whittier area.
Southwest Office: serves unincorporated communities in Baldwin Hills, Catalina Island, Del Aire, Firestone, Florence, Ladera Heights, Lennox, Marina Del Rey, View Park, Walnut Park, West Athens-Westmont, West Carson, West Compton, West Rancho Dominguez, and Willowbrook.
