Lorenz Mack

Lorenz Mack (pseudonyms: Carnicus, Calvin Carr, Georg Gutenstein, Alexander Stern) was born 17 June 1917 in Ferlach and died 26 July 1991 in Stolzalpe. He was an Austrian writer, publicist, cultural organiser, head of the cultural office and librarian in Sankt Veit an der Glan.
Life
Born the son of a gunsmith, Mack first learned his father's trade. After participating in World War II, Mack worked as a teacher, editor of a cultural magazine and, since 1951, a freelance writer. His writing appeared in a great variety of publications, including the periodical "Das Kulturwort" (as Georg Gutenstein) of Ludendorffer Wilfried Josch.
Mack was the first president of the Carinthian Writers' Association, a member of the Austrian P.E.N. Club (the oldest writers' association in Austria), initiator and founder of the discussion forum "Podium" (St. Veit an der Glan, 1965) and, together with noted Austrian poet Hermann Lienhard, initiator of the Culture Days in St. Veit an der Glan.
In the years from 1951 to 1952, Mack was editor of the literary magazine Die Drau. Monatsblätter für geistiges Leben und Verständigung.
