London Speedlite Scene, promoted as LSS, is a UK, privately controlled social networking service dealing primarily in photography meetups, with interests also in video, music, fashion, modeling, makeup, hairstyling and charity fund raising. It is currently the largest informal photography meetup network in the UK, with over 1 thousand online members worldwide. History The network promoted under the banner of the London Speedlite Scene before becoming simplified to LSS in 2012. LSS began as an online group on Facebook in late 2010 before acquiring an independant online presence for itself in June 2011. Nathan Thompson is a founder and director of the network. Together with co founder and partner Sue-Ellen Chohan, (LSS Executive Director of Creative), the Chohan-Thompson couple arrange approximately 100% of LSS's developmental interests in the network. The network's headquarters is located in Brixton with bases in Lewisham, Catford and Bedford. LSS occupies several profiles on other social networks, all representing a significant portion of the network's photographic and video history. The LSS Meetups LSS typically holds photography events each month. The flagship event known as The LSS Meetups is hosted at various locations throughout the year. With the exception of The LSS Meetups, each event has separate photography schedules lasting approx two hours, although they sometimes run longer of that time. The LSS Meetups are a significant part of the promotional stream for LSS with attendees often writing articles and blogging about their experiences. The 1st LSS Meetup was held in Clapham, South West London at Sugar Cane Bar 06/12/10 and the most recent being LSS Meetup 21 at Epping Forest 26/08/12. Other LSS Meetups have been held at popular venues such as The Rivoli Ballroom, Banksy Tunnel, Murder Mile Studios, Ladywell Athletic Arena and Ingatestone Hall. LSS Network expanded On the back of the success of the LSS Meetups, a few other events and advances were launched expanding LSS's desire to diversify, including renting a studio on Atlantic Road, Brixton, South West London, where monthly studio events are held, producing short model vignette films, providing makeup artists and models for music videos, catwalk fashion shows and informal social events.
