Location3 Media is an interactive marketing agency based in Denver, Colorado. Location3 Media was founded in 1999 in New York City by Andrew Beckman. Location3 Media provides pay per click, search engine marketing, social media marketing and creative services. Operations Location3 Media was started in New York City in 1999. The company was focused on direct-response marketing backed by technology. In 2002, Beckman moved the headquarters to Denver, CO due to the lower cost of operations, central location for doing business with both coasts, large technology focus and increased quality of life. In 2003, Beckman, along with then-vice presidents Alex Porter and Samantha Bedford (née Pope), started SearchAdNetwork. In the early 2000s, secondary search engines were quite popular, and various ad networks would deliver text advertisements to these websites. SearchAdNetwork functioned as a mediator between the search engines and the ad networks. Beginning in late 2003, Google, and MSN (now Bing) began to take on ad network roles. Over the next five years, these major engines gradually increased traffic numbers, while the secondary engines decreased. By 2007, Google, Yahoo! and MSN had captured enough of the search traffic marketplace to put most of the tier B engines out of business. For the majority of 2003 through 2007, Location3 Media operated under the name SearchAdNetwork. Search marketing remains the company's biggest revenue generator; however, they decided to start using the Location3 Media brand in early 2008 due to the broadening of service offerings and increased revenue by more than 65% in two years after the rebranding. The Local Search Traffic (LST) division was started in 2007. Initially, Local Search Traffic provided local map listing management. As the search engines became more sophisticated in their local search and maps areas, LST expanded services to cover these growing aspects and provided other location-based advertising services, including localized paid search marketing, management of internet yellow page programs and reputation management within the map business profiles. LST is currently collaborating with Location3 Media's mobile marketing division to build out strategies for the growing social networking apps and other advanced mobile technologies. In July 2010, Entrepreneur magazine featured Erik Whaley, director of Local Search Traffic, in an article about advice for franchises to manage their local map listings. Technology Location3 Media developed and continues to enhance Media Agent, a tracking and reporting system for online marketing programs. Media Agent was developed to aid search marketers in their management of paid search programs. By using Media Agent's tracking pixel, a marketer can view the number of consumers that clicked on an ad, visited the website and completed a desired action (i.e., conversion). Media Agent has backend access to the search engines' APIs, which allows the platform to pull data from the engines and incorporate into detailed reports. The system provides suggestions for optimizing keyword bids and also provides data on keyword usage and performance, allowing marketers to make changes to the terms and phrases used in the campaign, use time and day parting, set geo targeting parameters, view search trends, receive alerts for negative conversation percentages and more. In early 2010, Location3 Media partnered with Microsoft to develop a Silverlight Analytics Framework called Silverlytics. The cloud-based Silverlytics platform is a Microsoft Azure-based endpoint, which provides analytics capabilities to advanced web technologies that may not work with pixel- or JavaScript-based tracking tags. Silverlytics uses Microsoft Pivot, an experimental application from Microsoft Labs, to provide a way to visualize analytics data in real-time and expose traditional APIs so that advertisers can integrate analytics packages into various dashboards and applications. As of May 2010, Silverlytics was still in beta testing.
