Local People Leading (LPL) is an alliance of national networks and community groups in Scotland that has been created to campaign for a strong and independent community sector. Claiming that all of Scotland's "political parties agree that the excessive centralisation of state power has damaged local democracy", Local People Leading has two main functions - to promote the work of local people in their communities and to influence national policy development. It was created in January 2007 by an alliance of four national networks: Development Trusts Association Scotland, Community Woodlands Association, Community Recycling Network Scotland and Senscot. LPL has identified three key areas for action: * Reviewing and extending the scope of Land Reform Act *Enabling the transfer of public assets into community ownership. *Putting power in the hands of local communities. Supporters include Highlands and Islands Community Energy Company, Patrick Harvie MSP and WRVS.
