List of states that declared independence during the unrest in East Ukraine

List of states that declared independence during the unrest in East Ukraine refers to activists occupying government buildings or in other ways declared independence. This list follows current ones and former ones.
Current
* Donetsk People's Republic: The Donetsk People's Republic declared independence on April 7. It currently controls many buildings in cities, such as Sloviansk and Horlivka.
*25px Luhansk People's Republic: The Luhansk People's Republic was the successor to the Luhansk Parliamentary Republic. Activists occupied the SBU building in Luhansk since April 8, and controlled the city council, prosecutor's office, and police station on April 27. However, BBC claimed that the protesters left the city council and buildings they occupied on April 27 except the SBU building .
Former
*25px Republic of Crimea: Republic of Crimea was proclaimed on May 11 by the parliament of Crimea. Later, the Republic of Crimea joined the Russian Federation following a referendum.
* Kharkov People's Republic: The Kharkov People's Republic was a short lived republic proclaimed on April 7 by protesters occupying the RSA building. However, the day later special forces retook the building, thereby ending the control the protesters had over the building. However, on April 21 during a rally people elected a "people's governor."
Failed proposals
*25px Luhansk Parliamentary Republic was a proposed republic that was planned on April 8. Despite that, it is not known if it still exists and it is likely it was replaced by the Luhansk People's Republic.
* Odessa People's Republic: This republic was allegedly declared by an internet group on Apil 16, but anti-maidan protesters said they had not made a declaration. Unlike Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Luhansk, Pro-Russian Protesters claim they want Odessa to be an autonomous region within Ukraine.
