A recent Gallup poll found that 70% of Americans supported same-sex marriage, including 55% of Republicans, whose support has historically been less than that of Democrats. Regardless, the issue has been a divisive within the Republican Party, itself, as shown when only 47 Republicans voted to codify Obergefell v. Hodges.
