South Atlantic Basin
Until recently, it was unknown that tropical cyclones could form in the South Atlantic Ocean. In April 1991, however, a tropical storm affected Angola. In 2004, when a Category 2 hurricane impacted the province of Santa Catarina in Brazil, it was referred to as Hurricane/Cyclone Catarina . Six years later, a tropical storm formed and was nicknamed Anita. In 2011, the Brazilian navy devised a naming list. So far, 9 tropical and subtropical cyclones have been named from it.
