Lisa Couturier is an American poet, writer, and animal advocate. Lisa was born in New Jersey, but she grew up in Maryland. She graduated with a Master's degree in Journalism from the University of Maryland in 1985. She also earned a certificate in Women's Studies. Lisa also earned another Master's degree at the Gallatin School at New York University. She lives on an agricultural reserve with her husband, children, and six horses. This book is about the animals that have adapted to urban life in the Northeast. Animals/Bodies This is a collection of poems Lisa created. Her work was published on November 11, 2014.<ref name":1" /> These collections of poems won the Chapbook Award from the New England Poetry Club in 2015.<ref name":1" /> "Dark Horse" This essay was written in inspiration from Lisa's grandfather's thoroughbred racehorse named Fast Smile. The horse ran more than 100 races. This essay was published in the July/ August 2010 issue of Orion Magazine.<ref name":1" /> This essay won Pushcart Prize in 2012 and was also nominated for the Graham Prize for Environmental Writing.
