Linthicum family in Maryland
|
The Linthicum family were Welsh immigrants who likely entered the colonies at London Town. Thomas Linthicum obtained a large tract of land in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. He renamed the portion of land in what is today Crofton, Maryland, "Linthicum Walks." Upon his death, this land was inherited by Thomas Linthicum II. As a wedding present, he gave a portion of it to his son, Thomas Linthicum III, who would build the home "Linthicum Walks," that exists to this day. As George Washington travelled the adjacent Post Road of "Ridge Road" (today's Route 424), he likely stayed here during his travels between Annapolis, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and his home at Mount Vernon, Virginia.
