Linda van Roosmalen

Linda van Roosmalen is a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.
Van Roosmalen obtained her PhD degree in Rehabilitation Science and Technology at the University of Pittsburgh. She graduated from the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands with an Engineer's degree in Industrial Design Engineering, Department of Product and System Ergonomics.
Van Roosmalen’s research interests include wheelchair transportation safety and wheelchair occupant biomechanics during motor vehicle impact. She uses computer simulation software as well as static and dynamic testing to evaluate product safety. Her other interests are in universal design and development of products that are safe, useful and usable. She has conducted multiple user surveys, moderated various focus groups, and developed protocols to evaluate product safety and usability. She actively participates in ANSI/RESNA and ISO standards committees related to wheelchair safety, occupant restraint usage and wheelchair securement. Recently she became active in the area of tele-rehabilitation and the use of the internet. She has published nationally and internationally in peer reviewed journals and presented at various conferences and meetings.
Van Roosmalen is of Dutch ancestry.
