Liana White

Liana White is a 29-year old Canadian woman who went missing July 11, 2005. Her body was found five days later, on July 17.
White, who was from the Edmonton, Alberta neighbourhood of Castledowns, was last seen in the morning on her way to work as a medical clerk. She may have been wearing scrubs. Her brown was found abandoned at 7:22 A.M. MST with the driver's side door open in a park about 2 kilometres (1.2 miles) from her house. Her wallet, car keys, cellphone and shoes were found scattered in and around the vehicle. There were no signs of foul play. Her husband, Michael White, 28, was not immediately considered a suspect, however, there were contradictions between his interview and those of others about the times when she was seen that morning.
The fact of her being pregnant with her second child has drawn comparisons to the case of American Laci Peterson. They are also the parents of a two-year old daughter. Michael White is a heavy duty mechanic and former soldier.
Body found, husband charged
On July 17, at approximately 5 P.M., searchers found an unidentified body outside of Edmonton. Although the identity of the body was not immediately made, Michael White was charged with second degree murder (Section 231) and committing an indignity to a dead body (Section 182(b)) under the Criminal Code. An autopsy performed on the body identified it as that of Liana White.
On November 18, an Alberta Court of Appeal justice ruled that the Crown could appeal a lower court ruling that released Michael White on 10,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing took place in March 2006 to determine if there was enough evidence for White to stand trial.
The maximum penalty, if sentenced, is a life sentence with parole in 10-25 years.
Michael White was convicted of Second Degree Murder during his trial in December.
