Leonid Savin

Leonid Volodymyrovych Savin (Born 1974) is a Ukrainian journalist and political activist. He edits the book series New Policy (so far three books: one dedicated to globalization process, a toolkit for activists, ana third dedicated to problems of nationalism, xenophobia and other forms of discrimination). He was also chairperson of Duginist Eurasian Youth Union, in Sumy, Ukraine.

In 2001 Savin was a cleaner atthe American University in Kyrgyzstan located in Bishkek, where he was active in the staff union.

* At one time he ran the infopoint in Ukraine for Peoples Global Action.

* He attended Eco'n'action, the Second International Youth Congress on Globalization and Environment organised by BUNDjugend (Young Friends of the Earth Germany).

*In March 2007 he was obliged to move to Russia, where he edits the ESM website.

*On 20 October 2007, along with Alexander Bovdunov and Valery Mantrov, Leonid Savin was accused by Valentyn Nalyvaichenko, acting head of the Ukrainian Security Service, the SBU, of vandalising Ukrainian national symbols on the top of Mount Hoverla:"Having climbed to the top of Mt. Hoverla in the Carpathian range, they simulated sawing off parts of the Trident -- the national emblem -- installed there and painted the Eurasian Youth Union emblem on a monument to the Ukrainian Constitution. Then they photographed the results of their act on a cell phone camera and left Ukrainian territory. Afterward, Savin posted the pictures and video footage showing the simulated sawing off of Trident parts, on the Eurasian Youth Union website, Nalyvaichenko concluded."
*Criminal charges of public mischief have been brought up against Leonid Savin and other members of the ESM in Ukraine and he is being wanted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine for questioning.
