Leah Coleman

Leah Coleman (born Leah Jane Coleman) is a young child actress from Salt Lake City, and daughter of Rachel de Azevedo Coleman. She and her mother are most notable for appearing on the children's TV show, She is partially the inspiration for such; at 14 months old, her parents finally realized she had been profoundly deaf since birth. It was then her parents decided to teach ASL. Shortly after Leah's birth, her cousin, Alex Brown (who is the daughter of Rachel Coleman's sister, Emilie Brown) was born. His parents taught him ASL too so that he could communicate with his deaf cousin. And so, in 2002, Alex, Leah and Rachel appeared in the first three volumes of

Leah also beat all her peers in her school Spelling Bee, despite the fact that none of them were deaf. To date, Leah, along with Alex, Rachel and their animated pet frog, Hopkins (who made his debut in 2004's Family, Feelings & Fun), have appeared in 26 Signing Time! episodes (13 in each of the two current seasons). Leah's sister, Lucy is also disabled in the fact that she has cerebral palsy and spina bifida. The two recently started school in August 2008.
