Lavinia Spalding is a San Francisco-based author and editor whose books include Writing Away: A Creative Guide to Awakening the Journal-Writing Traveler (Travelers' Tales, 2009) and With a Measure of Grace: The Story and Recipes of a Small Town Restaurant (Provecho Press, 2004), the cookbook and story of Hell's Backbone Grill, a farm-to-table restaurant in Boulder, Utah (co-written ). She is also the editor of the 2011 and 2012 editions of The Best Women's Travel Writing (Travelers' Tales). A regular contributor to Yoga Journal, her work has also appeared in magazines and literary journals including Sunset Magazine, Post Road, Inkwell, and Gadling. "Writing Away" was named one of the ten best travel books of 2009 by the Los Angeles Times. "The Best Women's Travel Writing 2011" was a "Foreword" Book of the Year Finalist. She was born in New Hampshire, raised in Flagstaff, Arizona, graduated from the University of Arizona, and lived and taught for six years in Busan, South Korea.
