Lady Guan (birth and death dates unknown), whose given name was not recorded in history, was the daughter of Guan Yu, a military general in the late Han Dynasty. In folk tales and Chinese opera, she is known as Guan Yinping or Guan Feng. Only one line about Lady Guan is found in Guan Yu's biography in Records of the Three Kingdoms. It mentioned that before the Battle of Fancheng, Sun Quan sent a messenger to meet Guan Yu, suggesting that Guan Yu's daughter (Lady Guan) marry his son. However, Guan Yu insulted the messenger and rejected the proposal. Sun Quan was enraged. This event was also mentioned in the historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong, but was greatly dramatised. In the novel, Sun Quan sent Zhuge Jin as a messenger to meet Guan Yu in Jing Province, proposing a marriage between his son and Guan's daughter to affirm the alliance between Sun Quan and Liu Bei. However, Guan Yu responded angrily to Zhuge Jin and said, "How can my 'tiger daughter' marry a 'dog son'? I'd have killed you if not for the sake of your younger brother (Zhuge Liang)! Enough said!" He then ordered his men to drive away Zhuge Jin. Modern references Guan Yinping is first introduced as a playable character in the eighth instalment of Koei's Dynasty Warriors video game series.
