Laborate Pharmaceuticals India Limited is a pharmaceutical company in India. Its registered and corporate office is located at Panipat, Haryana. The company manufactures generic pharma medicines and markets them in India and abroad. Mr. Ajay Bhatia is the Chairman and his younger brother, Mr. Sanjay Bhatia is the Managing Director of the organization.
Laborate has more than 4000 employees and owns three medicine plants. One is in Panipat and two are at Paonta Sahib, Himachal Pradesh. The business has a pan-India presence as a result of a distribution network consisting of its own depot, 28 C&F agents, 120 distributors and 3500 stockists.
History
Post the independence era, Prithvi Raj Bhatia launched a rented medicine counter in Panipat. This was followed by a shop, then a distributorship and later a consignee agency of contemporary pharmaceutical companies.
Ajay Bhatia, Prithvi Raj’s elder son, joined the business at the age of 23. In 1985, he, along with his brother-in-law Sanjeev Bhatia, installed a medicine manufacturing unit at Panipat. In 1986, Sanjay Bhatia joined the duo. Initially the firm had been established as a partnership. In 1990 it was converted into a company called ‘Laborate Pharmaceuticals India Pvt. Ltd.’.
The Panipat factory began production with a small team of 5 supervisors and technicians and 15 workers. The company then used to cater to the Punjab, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh market. Soon, the product scope was enlarged from injectable drugs to include tablets, capsules, eye drops and ointments.
In 1990, the company’s first export consignment was shipped to Brussels. The company also exported to the Great Britain and Germany. In 1997, the company got reconstituted as ‘Laborate Pharmaceuticals India Ltd.’.
Aditya Bhatia, son of Late Sanjeev Bhatia, joined in 2004 to lead the international business. In 2006, the company entered the elite Rs. 100-crore club. Customer base had expanded to more than 30 countries. In 2010, Laborate introduced the Direct-To-Stockist (DTS) sales chain. During the FY 2014-15, its revenues were Rs. 555 crore.
Products
Laborate has a range of over 1000 offerings, varying from generic pharma products to Ayurvedic and personal care products. In prescription medicine, there are 21 types of dosage forms available in 14 therapeutic areas.
Products are available in the form of tablets, capsules, ear drops, external preparations, external lotion, liquid syrups, cough syrups, dry syrups and drops, injections and powder/granules.
