L. J. Bryant at 23 years old is likely the youngest person to ever be a major political party's nominee for statewide office in Arkansas. He won a three way primary to be the Democratic Nominee for Commissioner of State Lands. Bryant secured 59% in the runoff against a veteran legislator. Like most every Democrat in Arkansas, Bryant was narrowly defeated in the in the Republican tidal wave of 2010. However, Bryant did win 3 of the 4 congressional districts. He signifies a new generation of leaders in Arkansas. Bryant was born February 17, 1987. NWA news says: "It takes a certain amount of moxie to run for a state constitutional office when you’re just 23 years old." L. J. was named as one of the twenty in their twenties by Arkansas Business. He lives in Newport, Arkansas. Also, he has been awarded Honorary Membership by the Arkansas Association of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America for his work for Career and Technical Education. He is a Hendrix College graduate. He graduated from Weiner High School. Bryant previously served as Legislative Liaison to the President of the State Senate. He owns Jackson Hewitt Tax Service in Jonesboro and is a Hendrix College graduate. Bryant serves on the governing board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Central Arkansas, the Iron Mountain Regional Arts Council, Jackson County Tourism Council, Drug Prevention Committee, and the Depot Days Committee. Bryant is a member of the Arkansas Education Association, Arkansas Realtors Association, Farm Bureau, NRA, Kiwanis, Humane Society, and Jackson County Historical Society. Bryant serves as lay leader of the Newport First United Methodist Church.
