Kylene Soar is a woman from New Plymouth, New Zealand, whose unexpected name change on the electoral roll, in 2002, drew attention to perceived insecurities in the country's electoral enrollment system. Name Change Soar discovered, after receiving a letter from the electoral enrollment center, that pranksters had used a web site allowing voters to correct their personal information, to change her title to "Mr" and her middle name to "Fat Ass". Soar expressed anger at this incident, both at the ability for the unknown pranksters to misuse the web site in this way, and the electoral center staff who allowed the letter to be sent out. She also expressed concerns of this misinformation making it to the printed electoral roll. Election center officials responded that her name had not actually been changed, and the letter was merely to confirm the details were correct |
