Kin tae kwon do

Kin Tae Kwon Do, also known as Kin Taekwondo, is a Martial arts school located in the heart of Perth in Western Australia. It is a progressive school that primarily teaches traditional Taekwondo as well as a range of other traditional martial art techniques in order to stay current and effective.
The school was founded by three brothers who have trained in taekwondo for nearly twenty years. Kin Tae Kwon Do is an independent martial art organisation, thus allowing the school and Instructors freedom to ensure all members receive the most effective training.
The school of Kin Tae Kwon Do places a strong emphasis on the 'Do' or Art . The teaching and learning incorporates not only dynamic and effective content knowledge but focuses on the holistic Martial Artist. Kin Tae Kwon Do strives to be about more than being skilled in combat. The discipline, mental training, and character development are there to provide the grounds for embedding in students a strong sense of justice, fortitude, compassion, humility and resolve. It is their belief that this important mental conditioning that separates the true Martial Artist from one who has mastered only the physical aspects of the Art.
Background
Kin Tae Kwon Do was formed to be a more progressive school than other traditional schools. The Principal Instructors trained previously under World Master Chong Chul Rhee who is often referred to as the "Father of Australian Tae Kwon Do". It was through Rhee Taekwon-Do that the Instructors developed a strong foundation and understanding of self-discipline and perseverance. Despite success across Australia and New Zealand the Perth region of Rhee Tae Kwon Do, in recent years, underwent organisational changes. It was at this time that the three Williams brothers in discussion with their students, with parents and family of students strongly supporting their unique teaching style, decided that in order to continue to teach effective tae kwon do and uphold the values and principles which they believed in, they would need to form their own school.
The three brothers Jesse, Paul and Rickey, trained as a family alongside two other brothers (who were previously Instructors but left due to work commitments) in Rhee Tae Kwon Do. Training as a family brought them closer together, and as individuals, it shaped them into strong, confident citizens. This sense of belonging and power of family bond that influenced the schools name "Kin". While all the brothers trained in Tae Kwon Do, between them they have trained briefly in a range of other Martial Arts. These include Karate, Aikido, Chinese martial arts and Mixed Martial Arts. The three Principal Instructors have also worked as personal fitness consultants and strength coaches. The progressive and dynamic teaching style present in Kin Tae Kwon Do is influenced by Principal Instructor Jesse Williams, who is a qualified teacher and completing a PhD in teaching and education.
The school follows the traditional 5 tenents of tae kwon do which is sometimes referred to as the Tae kwon do student oath. As well as this, the school adheres to three core values, respect, confidence, and discipline. An important feature for the schools is that the students are often included in decision-making processes. It is the Instructors belief that students develop leadership and follow a path of self-mastery. For them, giving the students responsibility and ownership not only cultivates a sense of belonging and strengthens the Kin Tae Kwon Do community but also develops a sense of achievement and leadership.
Community
The school has a particular commitment to being engaged with and giving back to the community. It is involved with a range of community-based and focused groups that have a particular alignment with marginalised or minority groups. These include the Youth Disability Advocacy Network in Western Australia and the Save Safe Schools Campaign collective in Western Australia. With a strong commitment to the LGBTQIA+ community, the school is involved in the 2016 Queer Collaborations Conference hosted in Perth. Kin Tae Kwon Do is also involved with the Police Welfare Foundation and is working on programs with Edith Cowan University and the University of Western Australia. As well as this the school provides opportunities to join as a team in events such as the HBF Run for a Reason and Chevron City to Surf.
Training
Kin Tae Kwon Do, is a traditional Martial Art and therefore non-competitive. It teaches students comprehensive and effective self-defense in a safe and respectful environment. All members learn the importance of discipline, respect and determination while building physical and mental strength.
Kin Tae Kwon Do believes that anyone who is interested in joining Martial Arts should have the opportunity to do so. Beginners are always welcome to start training and begin their journey to becoming a strong and holistic Martial Artist. Kin Tae Kwon Do provides a disciplined yet friendly environment, where respect and safety are constantly reinforced. In training learning how to effectively defend yourself and others is stressed. There is also a range of skills taught that help develop physical and mental well-being. Some aspects of training include exercises to develop strength, fitness, and flexibility as well as incorporating sparring (simulated combat), bag work (developing accuracy and power) and a range of martial art drills for targeted training.
It is often thought that Martial Art training encourages violence. With traditional Martial Arts, the opposite is more accurate. Kin Tae Kwon Do aims to develop a strong sense of respect and moral understanding. Training in a martial art requires a basic level of fitness so that you can participate. Kin Tae Kwon Do is very flexible, they support and modify training to assist each individual at whatever level of fitness to achieve their best.
There are many benefits of training in a traditional martial art. These include self-defence, fitness, good health, confidence, self-discipline, and respect.
