Ken Poirot

Kenneth “Ken” Poirot (born October 11, 1971) is an American author, scientist, financial professional, and public speaker. He is a published scientist for his work at MD Anderson Cancer Center through the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas. The scientific paper he co-authored, Lipid-Complexed Camptothecin: Formulation and Initial Biodistribution and Antitumor Activities Studies, published in Cancer Chemotherapy and Pharmacology, has been cited 30 times by other scientific papers published by numerous researchers as per Scopus. Eventually, he was granted a US Patent for his research packaging Camptothecin, ananti-tumor, cancer chemotherapeutic drug, in a lipid complexed substrate (employing liposome technology). After leaving research and spending over 18 years in the financial services industry, he published the book, Mentor Me: GA=T+E—A Formula to Fulfill Your Greatest Achievement (May 2014), based upon his professional and personal experiences.
Early life
Poirot grew up in Northport, New York on Long Island’s North Shore. Poirot credits some of his early learning experiences in management and leadership from his time running cross country under Coach Gehrhardt. He would later write about this in his book, Mentor Me, and in his blog. Poirot graduated from Cornell University in 1993 with a B.S. in Microbiology. Upon graduating, he moved to Houston, Texas entering a PhD. Program in Cancer Research through the University of Texas Health Science Center.
Career
While studying for his PhD., he worked on a new drug delivery system for an existing drug, Camptothecin. His work was later published in an oft-cited paper he co-authored while in the Thoracic Head and Neck Medical Oncology Department at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Additionally, he was granted a US Patent, #5834012, titled Lipid Complexed Topoisomerase I Inhibitors, for his research.
In 1995, he left research to pursue a career in financial services with American Express Financial Advisors, Inc., where he earned his investment licenses. He spent over 18 years in the financial services industry working for such New York Stock Exchange-listed firms as The Charles Schwab Corporation (NYSE: SCHW), Merrill Lynch (NYSE: MER, now part of Bank of America, NYSE: BAC), Cullen/Frost Bankers (NYSE: CFR), BBVA (NYSE: BBVA which acquired Guaranty Bank during the financial crisis), and JPMorgan Chase (NYSE: JPM) according to the US securities regulator, FINRA.
As the Senior Vice President and Sales Manager of Frost Bank’s (Cullen/Frost Banker’s) brokerage department, he led his unit to four consecutive years of double-digit revenue growth, increasing revenue by over 83%, while increasing the profit margin from 26% to 37%. At the same time he increased the production of the average Investment Officer (financial advisor) from under $25,000 a month to over $41,000 a month.
During one of his speaking engagements at the annual Bank Insurance Securities Association in Hollywood, Florida, he was noted for leading his bank brokerage department to two consecutive years of double-digit revenue growth, while peer bank brokerage programs were struggling by American Banker. Per Matt Ackermann with American Banker in his article titled, Cross-Sales Seen as a Cure for Weak Investing Units, he cited Ken Poirot as stating, “aggressive cross-selling can deliver immediate dividends. Since he became sales manager in 2004, he said, the brokerage unit has managed two consecutive years of double-digit revenue growth—11% in 2004 and 15% in 2005.” This article can also be seen on his website, mentormegate.com
After his time with JPMorgan Chase, he authored a book based upon the training he received and taught during his tenure in financial services. He blended this training with his personal experiences, adding enhancements based upon real-world, practical, hands-on application, in order to deliver a concise, succinct package for the everyday person.

Ken Poirot published his book, Mentor Me: GA=T+E—A Formula to Fulfill Your Greatest Achievement, on May 2, 2014 releasing it July 15 of the same year. Mentor Me is a self-help, personal development, success, achievement, business book which Ken Poirot has called “real-world practical.” Prior to its release, the reviews from initial readers and a professional critic were positive. As Ed Tyll stated about Mentor Me on May 15, 2014, “People love it,” on The Ed Tyll Show. Professional critic, Barry Silverstein called it, “a valuable guide to the art of mentoring,” on June 5, 2014, with his review published at ForewardReviews. It was later called, “10 books to read in 2014.” Mentor Me quickly garnering international attention prior to its release, resulting in international rights interest. When asked about Mentor Me, Ken Poirot stated, “I wanted to share what I knew, not only that, I wanted to coach on a wider scale. There’s nothing more satisfying than working with someone and seeing them embark on a journey of self-discovery,” wrote Andrea Coventry. Poirot also stated, it is “designed to be different than the other books of this genre. It is more interactive in nature and is based on real-world, practical information applicable to everyday life. Written in a conversational style it is often described by readers as motivational, inspirational, and easy-to-implement.” Additionally, at least one of the quotes from his book, “The more I learn about myself, the more I understand you,” has gained worldwide notoriety. It was recently featured on the web site of a Danish company in the Netherlands. Poirot released many of the quotes from his book into the public domain via Commons, making them available for universal use worldwide free of copyright infringement.
Personal life
In 2003, he married Cynthia Lisa McBride. After seven years of marriage, they later divorced in 2010. He continues to pursue his passion for travel with an affinity to visit places such as the Ukraine. He now resides in Richmond, Texas, a suburb of Houston.
