Kelly Craighead is president and managing director of the Democracy Alliance, whose day-to-day operations she oversees. Craighead graduated in 1989 with a bachelor's degree in recreation administration from the California State University at Chico. Craighead worked in the Clinton White House as Deputy Assistant to the President in the Office of the First Lady of the United States. In July 2001, Mrs. Clinton was sworn in as a justice of the peace by the Marin County Clerk so that she could perform Craighead's marriage to Erick Mullen, a political consultant and former Deputy Chief of Staff to Senator Chuck Schumer of New York. According to the organization's website, Craighead "provides the leadership, strategic vision and management capacity necessary to sustain the Democracy Alliance as one of the largest drivers of activist support for progressive movement institutions."
