Kehilat Chovevei Tzion - Church Street Synagogue

Kehilat Chovevei Tzion - Church Street Synagogue is a Modern Orthodox synagogue started in Skokie, Illinois in August 2005. It is located at the intersection of Church and Crawford in Skokie. The current spiritual leader of this congregation is Rabbi Shaanan Gelman from Yeshiva University in New York, who assumed this position in 2006. The synagogue was started purely for geographic reasons to serve the modern orthodox community in Skokie that lives in an area north of Church Street often referred to as Skevanston (combination of Skokie and Evanston). The first president of the synagogue is Dr. Joel Okner. The current Torah reader for the synagogue is Elisha Rosenblum, a direct descendant of the great chasidic master, Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Kotzk.

The synagogue is presently in the middle of a $4 million fundraising effort to build a new building on land owned by the synagogue directly north of its present location.
