Kautik Student Film Festival

Kautik Student Film Festival (KSFF) is a 3-day non-competitive all-India student film festival, introduced to Nainital, Uttarakhand, in the summer of 2017. In addition to students, it was attended by the who's who of that scenic hill station: theatre artistes, cinematographers, filmmakers, and state and union ministers.
Co-founders of the festival
The festival director of this first edition is Rajesh Shah, a retired Hindi film cinematographer. The artistic director is his wife, Shalini Shah, a National Award-winning filmmaker. They are both presently film faculty members at Kumaun University, Nainital, their hometown. They, along with the first batch of 14 film students, organised the festival with the blessings of, and on behalf of, CEFM-the Hermitage, Kaumun University.
Open Forum
In addition to the screenings, open forum sessions were conducted by film industry members, including cinematographer Kamaljeet Negi; actor Lalit Mohan Tiwari; Rajeev Katiyar, director of Films Division; film critic/essayist Dalton L, representing the Film Critics Circle of India; and Bhupendra Kainthola, director of FTII-Pune.
Screenings and competitive status
The first edition had a package of short fiction and documentaries from Film and Television Institute of India, Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Whistling Woods International Institute, Amity University, and other major film schools in the country. Films made by many of the first batch of film students of Kumaun University too were screened. The organisers have announced that, in the very next edition, the festival would have a competitive section and would include international student films. Panel discussions and masterclasses would be conducted too.
