Kappa Lambda Beta

Kappa Lambda Beta is a local social co-educational fraternity at University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, Wisconsin. It traces its origins to 1963 as the unrecognized all-male local Fraternity F.U.B.A.R. In 1965, to be recognized by Stout State University, F.U.B.A.R. changed their name to Kappa Lambda Beta. In 1992, Kappa Lambda Beta decided to admit women as equal sisters.
History
In 1963, thirteen students from Stout State College gathered together at a local tavern on the south side of Menomonie, WI where they founded a group called F.U.B.A.R. (Friendship, Understanding, Brotherhood, Academics, Recognition). This Fraternity of men, with their attendance at all of Stout's football and basketball games, became familiar to thousands of Stout students and at many of the other colleges around the state of Wisconsin and the surrounding regions. The F.U.B.A.R.'s always brought with them their huge green and white banner sporting the name and insignia of F.U.B.A.R. Before long, the F.U.B.A.R. Fraternity held regular meetings, elected officers, wrote a constitution, collected dues, and accepted their first pledge class. These twelve new members, along with the original thirteen, became a respectable force on campus, even though they were still not formally recognized by the college.
After a meeting the brothers of F.U.B.A.R. decided that it was time to be recognized by Stout State University. On Tuesday, February 16, 1965, F.U.B.A.R. changed their name to Kappa Lambda Beta (KΛB), meaning Knowledge Leadership Brotherhood, while keeping the concepts of F.U.B.A.R. Within only three months of becoming a recognized Fraternity, Kappa Lambda Beta welcomed their first pledge class.
With goals of fostering Knowledge, Leadership and Brotherhood, the organization participated in many campus events. In their first homecoming parade, Kappa Lambda Beta won the most beautiful float award. This was the first of many accomplishments to come. They were ready to take on anything that had faced them!
In November 1992, in order to preserve the viability of their organization, the members of Kappa Lambda Beta invited their little sisters to become full members of the organization. To this day, Kappa Lambda Beta is the only coed fraternity in the University of Wisconsin system. We are recognized on our campus for our diversity, sociability, and academic success. Most importantly, we are recognized for our fraternal brotherhood and sisterhood, our green and white colors and our mascot Vladimir, the silverback gorilla.
