Kalu Yala

Kalu Yala is a sustainable town being built outside of Panama City in the Republic of Panama. The building site, which is located in the Tres Brazos Valley, plans to be one of the only environmentally sustainable communities in the world, with aspirations that it will be a teaching tool for the world on how to live smarter. Jimmy Stice is the CEO of Kalu Yala. The sustainable community will be developed in the mountains about 45 minutes outside Panama City, Panama.
Though not yet under construction, much of the town has been designed by Moule and Polyzoides Architects and Urbanists based in Pasadena, CA. These architects are part of the New Urbanism movement.
Since Summer 2010, Kalu Yala Entrepreneurial Internships's student program has had programs agricultural studies, animal science, biology, business, health and wellness, education, farm-to-table culinary arts and outdoor recreation. It is a pay-for opportunity similar to study abroad but with a much more individually tailored program.
Kalu Yala Internships is a growing program designed to engender a community culture before Kalu Yala is built. The program essentially brings students and young professionals from around the world to Panama to set their own course of work that they believe will contribute to the creation of the world’s highest quality of living.<ref name="Backer"/>
