Justice International (JI)(also known as justice International world) is an international non-govermental organisation made up of network of lawyers and social scientiests striving to promote international Human Rights Standards, rehabilitation, restoration of individual dignity, Justice and fair trial worldwide. In particular Justice International seeks to promote the Rule of law and Justice globally, challenging all forms of repression, victimisation and injustice. JI aims to arouse awareness and promote adherence to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. To do so the organisation looks to participate at all Legal proceedings before national and international courts and tribunals to defend and protect the rights of victims of torture, oppression, extra-judicial trials, crimes against humanity, genocide, systemic miscarriage of justice, political victimization, religious and ethnic cleansing. History Justice International was originally conceived in 1992 by Sayyad Mohyeddeen, a member of the Bar of England & Wales. Its first members were other barristers and advocates, including John Platts-Mills QC. In 1995 a large group of Egyptian intellectuals were transferred by a presidential decree issued by the then military dictator Hosni Mubarak to military court on the day they were found not guilty and exonerated from any criminality by the Egyptian judiciary. Following a visit by its founding Director Sayyad Mohyeddeen and other London based lawyers to observe the trial of the 79 Egyptian civilians before Cairo's military court, the group initiated a concerted effort to confront the gross violation of international human rights standards and the abuse of the principles of rule of law. Supported by the country’s Bar Syndicate and escorted by 300 lawyers into the military tribunal the group succeeded shaking the ‘emergency regime’ under which abuses were committed. Following this event JI was established with the aim of ensuring that the principles of the rule of law and the international human rights standards are upheld. Purpose The group says its mission is "to halt and reverse the process of criminalisation of the individual, destruction of the family unit and communities, through reaching out to the isolated communities, defending individual values, engaging and empowerment and development". Currently, much of its work focuses on the attempted annihilation of minority groups, criminalisation of individuals for their belief or opinion and systematic destruction of communities. Among other issues, it is also concerned with victims of miscarriage of justice, re-offenders and victims of disasters. Notable Work In 1995 and 2000, JI representation and intervention supported by the Egyptian Bar syndicate and other civil soceities secured the unconditional release of civilian wrongfully hailed into military tribunal under the state of emergency regime in Egypt. In 1997 JI delegation investigated the kidnapping and illegal detention of Lebanese and Palestinian nationals by the Israeli state. In 1998 JI team investigated gross violation of Human Rights standards in the State of Assam and the indiscriminate killings of civilians in breach of UN Basic Principles. In Malaysia, in partnership with the Bar of Malaysia, JI successfully observed the political trial of the Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and challenged the breaches of principles of rule of law and eventually secured the released of the Deputy Prime Minister. in 2000, after military crackdown on civilian and women in Turkey under draconian state security trials and regulation, Justice International campaigned and secured the eventual repeal of Article 312 of the Turkish Penal Code and released of a number of journalists and students.
