Joseph Dobrian (born October 12, 1956, Madison, Wisconsin) is a free-lance writer and occasional local talk show host who was the Manhattan Libertarian Party candidate for Manhattan Borough President of the City of New York in 2005. Early life and education Dobrain recieved a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa. Career in the media Dobrian's journalism, which focuses mainly on business, travel and sports, has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, National Jeweler, Travel + Leisure, Elite Traveler, and American Heritage, among other publications. He has written and had published essays on politics, popular culture, and the English language. Career in politics Dobrian moved to Manhattan in 1983. In 2003 Dobrian ran for the New York's 8th congressional district U.S. House of Representatives seat on the Libertarian ticket. In 2005 his campaign for borough president received 2,678 votes, or approximately 1% of the votes cast. On January 21, 2006, Dobrian was elected Chairman of the Manhattan Libertarian Party and has hosted the local political talk show, "Hardfire". In May 2009, Dobrian won the nomination for the Libertarian candidate for Mayor of New York City.
