José Luis González is an award-winning cartoonist, an accomplished playwright and screenwriter, and filmmaker.
Born in an ambulance outside of Monterrey, Mexico, his family moved to Del Rio, Texas a few years after. As a child, he taught himself how to draw by religiously studying the issues of MAD Magazine he kept hidden from his mother.
A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin (Radio-TV-Film, 2001), his steady output since has included writing and co-producing the play “Luces de la Frontera,” producing the television programs “Sneak Peek 2000” for KVR-TV and “Liver City” for Austin Cable Access, shooting and editing a dozen music videos and shorts, and DJing at a pirate radio station. His art has been seen in galleries, cafés, and publications throughout Texas, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, and New York. His art was recently featured in the limited-edition LP “Trouble in Mind,” by renowned Texas musician Hayes Carll.
After completing artwork for “Tall Tales and Other Big Lies” and “KinkyToons (TM),” José Luis continues work on his first graphic novel, The History of Magic, Part 1: Glorious Birds.
