Jose Carlos Rivero (born May 2, 1981) is an American soccer referee from New York. He has been a Major League Soccer referee since 2012. In 2014, he was suspended after being arrested for fraud. 2014 arrest and suspension Rivero was arrested on October 8, 2014, for fraud after allegedly collecting unemployment benefits while employed. On October 23, 2014, he was suspended indefinitely by the Professional Referee Organization. Though no official announcement was made, he was reinstated for the 2015 season being assigned as a fourth official to Silviu Petrescu for an opening weekend match between Philadelphia and Colorado. |
