Jon Hartley is a Canadian economist. Early life and education Hartley was born on November 11, 1989, in Ontario, Canada. He graduated with honors from the University of Chicago in 2011, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Mathematics. He earned an MBA specializing in Finance, Business Economics, and Public Policy at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, in 2017. Following that, he completed a Master of Public Policy (MPP) at the Harvard Kennedy School. He is currently enrolled in the Ph.D. program in Economics at Stanford University Career Hartley serves as a Policy Fellow at the Hoover Institution and as a Research Fellow at the Civitas Institute at the University of Texas at Austin. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute and an affiliated scholar at the Mercatus Center. Recognition and media presence Hartley was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in Law & Policy in 2017 and the Wharton 40 Under 40 list. He hosts Capitalism and Freedom in the 21st Century, a podcast affiliated with the Hoover Institution. His writing has appeared in media outlets, including Forbes, The Huffington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times.
