John Mollica

John Mollica is a Hudson County, New Jersey based musician and filmmaker. He is currently a teacher of film at Memorial High School, in his hometown of West New York, New Jersey and plays every Saturday night at Cole's Street Cafe in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Early life

John Mollica was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on December 1, 1955, and raised in West New York, New Jersey. His primary interests during his early years were singing and playing guitar.

Musical Career

In 1969, he began writing songs and started his first band curbside. This project was short lived along with various other unsuccessful attempts to put together a sound, leading him to become a self-contained act.

Since 1970, he has performed in hundreds of cabarets, nightclubs, and concert halls in the Northeast. He became a headliner in many Greenwich Village folk/rock clubs including Kenny's Castaways, The other End, and Folk City.

Under the stage name Johnny Caruso, he was a familiar fixture on the New York City nightclub scene. His band, The Johnny Caruso Story, performed his original music and was managed and produced by former Bruce Springsteen producer Jim Cretecos ("Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ" and "The Wild, The Innocent, and the E street hustle").

Trivia

* John Mollica was a very good friend of Larry David, co-creator of Seinfeld, Larry David tips his hat to John Mollica in an early episode of the show, naming a minor character after him in The Pez Dispenser.
* John Mollica is also very good friends with Kenny Kramer of whom the Seinfeld character Kramer was based upon, he is mentioned on the frontpage of his website as well.
