Joe Birbiglia is an Italian-American stand-up comic from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts who now resides in New York.
Early Life Joe got his start in comedy while writing a story in 5th grade. He was an influence on his younger brother, well known comedian Mike Birbiglia. In the 11th grade, he snuck out of his junior prom, and joined a monastery as a transcriber in the Austrian Alps, where he was thrown out after it was revealed that he never wanted to be a transcriber, or a monk.
Career He started touring the New York comedy scene, and quickly made a name for himself. Then his younger brother Mike started to get popular, and Joe started to tour along with him. Joe is the subject of many of Mike's comedy routines. He started to make a name for himself, and was a frequent guest on the weekly alternative comedy show, Comedy Death-Ray. He has since taken some time off to start a family. He still remains active, and is a frequent producer, collaborator, and writer for his brother Mike's television work.
Personal Life He married his fiancee, and had a son, Heller Ovaltine Birbiglia. (which is named for his great grandfather.) He started the company BirBigShirts, which makes shirts based off of his brother's more well-known jokes. (And some obscure ones occasionally.) He makes over $250,000 dollars a year according to an interview on his brother's website.. In his free time, he enjoys skateboarding, basketball, whiffleball, skateboarding, and he owns a Burger King franchise in downtown Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.
