Jocko Abramovitch

Jocko Abramovitch is a British musician and former soldier, best known for his work as DJ Miko on British radio indie and the BBC.
Born Angus Jocko Ferguson-Abramovitch in Glasgow, Scotland, he is the eldest son of artist/actress Patricia Abramovitch and academic Niall Ferguson. Raised in Reykjavik, Iceland for the first decade of his life he is an ecletic mix of culture being the son of a Russian Jewess and a Scottish nationalist.
In 1990, along with several other classmates from NYU, Abramovitch formed the 3rd wave ska group, Mephiskapheles Mephiskapheles, releasing the groundbreaking "All Hail Satan". The band broke up in 1994 shortly after Abramovitch's leaving NYC. Married to Allison MacDonald in 1993, he lost his daughter Eowyn to cancer in 2000 and was divorced later that same year.
Abramovitch released the 1994 club anthem, "What's Up" as DJ Miko in 1994. This marked the first of many club hits around the world.
A graduate of the prestigious Tisch School of Music at NYU and the Master's program at Carnegie-Mellon University he is a trained classical cellist.
Abramovitch left music on two occasions for military service. First in 1997 when he joined the British HM Royal Marines until 1999 when he was severly wounded in Sierra Leone Sierra Leone. And again in 2000, after his becoming an officer in the United States Army. For seven years, Abramovitch served with the elite Army Special Forces as an Operational Detachment Commander. He was awarded a Silver Star for valour in Afghanistan.
Abramovitch now resides in Los Angeles, California and is still a much sought after DJ in festivals the world over. He is currently working for the BBC as a music producer.
