JJJ Heathcote Limited are purveyors of meats, poultry, and dealers in game located in the County of Cheshire, England. The company began life under the founder Jonathan James Jackson Heathcote, in the small town of Bollington, near Macclesfield in a small retail shop. During the first world war Heathcote worked as a horse groom at the Hall in Eccleshall, in the neighbouring county of Staffordshire. He eventually married and had eight children, all of whom would work in the business with him over the years. After his death, his children took over the business until their retirement, passing ownership to Heathcote's four grandsons, Edward, Michael, Jeremy, and Christopher, who continue to run the business to this day. Jonathan's daughter Margaret, and son Edward, both now in their 80s, still work for the company as secretary and chairman. Heathcote inherited 32 acres of land along with a small sized abattoir from relatives of his mother when the business was still very young. The abattoir still remains in the family's hands, although at present, the family use another small, family run abattoir, operated by friends in neighbouring Knutsford. The company currently operates two retail shops in Bollington, and one in the village of Poynton. The company sources all animals from their own, or other local farms, and mandates that distance to slaughter should be kept to a minimum. All animals are rested for at least two days before slaughter, to prevent unnecessary stress and discomfort. Likewise, all meat is prepared and cured traditionally, with beef being hung for at least 30 days before cutting. The company has appeared in good food guides in The Guardian, and UKTV's Good Food Channel. Until the closure of the abattoir in 2004, the company provided slaughtering facilities for the farm shop at Chatsworth, in neighbouring Derbyshire. The company are the purveyors of meat, poultry, and dealers of game to HM Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne MP, when at his constituency home.
