Jesse Norman Imeson is a Canadian currently serving a 25 year sentence for the killing of Carlos Rivera, 26, Bill Regier, 72, and wife Helene, 73. All three killings were committed in Southwestern Ontario during July 2007. This caused an extensive manhunt by Canadian authorities and a Canada-wide warrant was issued for Imeson's arrest. Imeson was arrested in Portage-du-Fort, Quebec, on the evening of Tuesday, 31 July 2007, after being identified and reported to police by a cottage-owner who had come face-to-face with Imeson after an attempted break-in to a neighbouring cottage. Imeson surrendered to police in the woods in which he had fled to after the confrontation, despite having possession of two firearms at the time. On 27 October 2008, Imeson rejected a plea of first degree murder and instead plead guilty to the lesser charge of three counts of second degree murder. He was sentenced to life in prison with no eligibility for parole for 25 years, the maximum penalty allowed under Canadian law. It is unclear why he pled guilty to the charge of second degree murder even though in this case it carried the same sentence as first degree murder, which he outright rejected the plea of. The families of the deceased have made public their intentions to vehemently oppose his release and his eligibility for parole. Although Imeson did not speak in front of the court he issued a statement to his lawyer which read: "I will be an old man before I am released, if I ever am," "I am truly sorry. Please forgive me." although this sentiment seems to run contradictory to things said by Imeson during the trial.
