Jessamyn Liu

Jessamyn Liu (born Midlothian, Virginia, 1984) is the first Chinese American to graduate as valedictorian from the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York.
Biography
Liu, the youngest of three children, was born to Weitsao and Reiko Liu, immigrants from Taiwan who had come to the United States in the 1970s.
Liu graduated from Richmond, Virginia's Maggie L. Walker Governor's School for Government and International Studies in 2002 with a 4.75 GPA; while there, she was a member of the track and field and math team, and also proved herself an accomplished pianist. Though her paternal grandfather and maternal great-grandfather were both military men, Liu's parents initially opposed her decision to apply to West Point, and she handled the application procedures herself, obtaining letters of recommendation from Virginia Senator John Warner and Congressman Eric Cantor.
