Jeffrey Owen Katz is an American scientist, author, and amateur radio operator. Education Katz studied at Stony Brook University. Career In 1989, Katz founded Scientific Consultant Services, Inc., which provides data handling solutions. Together with Donna L. McCormick, he co-authored three books for McGraw-Hill. Katz worked with the Custer Institute, serving on its Board of Directors, as Observatory Director from 2004 to 2012, and as the Research Chair from 2006 to 2012. Katz founded the Custer Institute's "Education Through Research" Program. Additionally, he wrote a monthly astronomy column for Long Island Pulse magazine. He secured grants for the institute's research and educational initiatives and developed specialized hardware and software, including for optics, and a de-convolution algorithm for image enhancement. Katz received a citation from the New York State Assembly recognizing his contributions. He is currently on the advisory board of Hampton's Observatory, Inc. Since his teenage years, he has been an amateur radio operator for the callsign AC2BQ licensed to Selden, NY.
