Jay Wintrob

Jay Wintrob is an American businessman who has been the CEO of investment firm Oaktree Capital Management since 2014. He was previously President and Chief Executive Officer of AIG Life and Retirement.
Education
Wintrob received a B.A. in political science from the University of California, Berkeley, graduating with highest honors in 1979. He followed with a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley Boalt Hall School of Law in 1982. In law school, Wintrob was elected to the Order of the Coif. During his last year with the company, the Life & Retirement unit of AIG that Wintrob headed contributed just over half of AIG's pretax operating income from its insurance businesses (approximately $5.1 billion).
Wintrob, who first met Oaktree co-founder Bruce Karsh during their mutual employment at O’Melveny & Myers, has served as a director of Oaktree Capital Management since September 2011. Wintrob became the first CEO in Oaktree’s history upon his appointment in 2014.
Charitable Efforts
Wintrob has served as a board member of several non-profit organizations, including The J.Paul Getty Trust, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, CalTech, The J.Paul Getty Trust, The Los Angeles World Affairs Council and Wilshire Boulevard Temple. Today he serves as the Vice Chairman of The Broad Foundations and on the boards of the Skirball Cultural Center
Wintrob has received the Ecumenical Council Leadership Award from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles (2001) and the Luis Lainer Founder's Award from Bet Tzedek Legal Services (2002). He is married to Wendy Wintrob, and the couple has two children.
