Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Basdei is a higher secondary school in the village of Basdei in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. The school is 8 km from district headquarters Surajpur and 2 km from the Surajpur Road Railway Station. This Navodaya school was part of the Surguja district before the creation on 15 August 2011. History The school opened with 40 students on 25 June 1992. Instruction Grades run from 6 to 7 standard as per CBSE syllabus. The medium of instruction is Hindi for Social Studies and Humanities, and English for Mathematics and Science. Governance The school runs under a scheme developed by the government of India under which private, co-educational Navodaya Vidyalaya establishments operate, averaging one establishment in each district. Facilities The school has around of land, and is equipped with a central building, hostels (Boys & Girls), a staff residence, a guest house, well-equipped labs, an art gallery and sports facilities with a gymnasium and more. Migration The Navodaya Vidyalaya scheme provides transport for 32% children from schools located in the Hindi belt to a school in the non-Hindi belt at class 9 level. This school accepts students from JNV, Sonitpur, Assam. As a result Assamese is the third language for the students up to class 9. The school allows students to enroll in the neighbouring cluster schools after class 10 where students can opt for continuing study other than science stream. These schools are JNV Raipur and JNV Bilaspur for Commerce and Humanity streams, respectively. In the first migration of the 3rd batch (1st and 2nd batch not migrated), a student named Alexander Bara was lost from Assam Sonitpur. Principals Mr. V S Ranawat was the first principal of the school, followed by Mr. S S Sai Pankraj who served for 10 years. At last the principal was Smt. K.N. Sreedevi, who dedicated her life for school and its members. Now at present principal is Sh. D.K. Sahu.
