Jason Nitz is an Australian adventure and exploration organiser. He is currently the Chairman and Founder of the International Scott Centenary Expedition 2012 (ISCE2102) which will see him lead a group of polar explorers as they make the final steps Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his men never did by man-hauling from McMurdo Sound to the site of Scott's last tent in early 2012. The expedition's primary aim is to mark the 100th anniversary of Scott's race to the pole and the subsequent deaths of the Polar Party including Scott himself. A commemoration service will be held on the Ross Ice Shelf with VIPs and descendants of Scott's men in attendance. Several polar explorers such as Ranulph Fiennes, Mike Stroud and Tim Jarvis are expected to be involved, along with representatives of the five Polar Families. Fundraising will primarily be in aid of the Scott Polar Research Institute which was initially established from funds set up by the Lord Mayor of London at Scott's dying request to 'look after his people'.
Other Expeditions Plans are currently underway to retrace the steps of Karius and Champion up the Fly River and down the Sepik River in Papua New Guinea sometime in mid-2009. The expedition will follow the format of an environmental adventure in motorised boats as far up the Fly River as possible before crossing the Star Mountain range on foot then on down the Sepik River to it's mouth. The expedition is expected to take 4-5 weeks and will look at the effects the Ok Tedi Mine has had on the downstream population as one of it's objectives.
