Istvan Kovats

valiant Istvan Kovats () (July 5, 1889 in Soponya, Hungary - February 8, 1964 in Soponya, Hungary) was a Hungarian soldier in the World War I who was promoted to valiant.

Life
Istvan Kovats was born in 1889, as son of a Hungarian medium landowner who had Cuman noble origin. He was the first child in the family, a very athletic boy, who was also good student in the school. The young Istvan strengthened because of the lot of physical works what he did on his father's lands. He started hard work at his 12 years age.
In 1912 in his 23 years age, he joined to the Bodyguard Regiment of Vienna, what was founded by Maria Theresa of Austria ruler.
He was bodyguard of Franz Joseph I of Austria for two years. It was not surprise because he was 204 cm tall and 110 kg, trained soldier. When the WW1 started he went to fight to the Russian front, lately he was on the Italian front too. Book of the 69. Imperial and Royal infantry regiment wrote about he. "The tallest soldier in the infantry, who recovered from a typhus sickness."
He went to home in 1918, as hero of Soponya village. He died in 1964 in stomach cancer.
