Interstitial suspension was referred to in the Tedx presentation by R. P. Joe Smith titled: "How To Use One Paper Towel". In this video, Smith promotes a technique of shake (one's hands twelve times) then fold (the single paper towel) prior to drying. He states: "The fold is important because it allows interstitial suspension."
The term "interstitial suspension" is used occasionally in the contexts of chemistry and biology, but is rarely defined specifically. Separately, however, "interstitial" from interstice is defined as "a space that intervenes between things; especially : one between closely spaced things" and "suspension", defined as: "the means by which something is suspended". Therefore, one might conclude "interstitial suspension", in Smith's context, could simply mean: "Liquid that is suspended between papers".
