International Velvet (song)

"International Velvet" is a song recorded by Welsh band Catatonia, the title track from their second studio album, International Velvet (1998). The writing credit is shared between band member Mark Roberts, and the band generally. The verses of the song are in the Welsh language describing a Welsh cultural awakening, while the English language chorus repeats the phrase "Every day when I wake up, I thank the Lord I'm Welsh".
"International Velvet" was not released as a single, but has since achieved an iconic status within the culture of Wales, being performed at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff for the opening ceremony of the 1999 Rugby World Cup, and representing an important part of the Cool Cymru movement.
