Integrejection is a portmanteau of “integration” and “rejection,” which first appeared in an essay about the typologies of Sufi currents in the West. By transcending black-and-white divisions of integration, rejection and isolation in situating mystical Islam in Euro-American contexts, the concept provides a beneficial apparatus for understanding and analyzing the gray areas of Sufi stances regarding modern culture. The category of integrejection can be utilized in exploring any spectrum of hybrid positions while studying the contextualization and inculturation of sub-cultures (minorities) in the frame of dominant cultures (majorities).
