Integrated Environmental Solutions

Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) Ltd. is a company that develops software simulation tools for architects, engineers, facilities managers and those involved in the development and management of building design.

The company was established in June 1994 and is headquartered in Glasgow, Scotland, with offices in Dublin, Ireland, Boston and San Francisco, USA and Melbourne, Australia.

Offering building performance consultation services and measurement products, IES’ International Consulting arm works with building design teams to provide simulation analysis and develop designs.
Products
VE-Ware
VE-Ware gives users limited access to IES’ <Virtual Environment> Apache thermal analysis software. The tool provides feedback on a buildings energy consumption and carbon emissions, as well as benchmarking the results against the Architecture 2030 Challenge if it is located in the US. VE-Ware analyzes new and existing buildings, allowing users involved in building design or refurbishment to compare how different designs, layouts and system options affect energy performance. The calculation is based on real geometry, and uses international data on climatic conditions and the typical characteristics of different building, room and system types. VE-Ware can be accessed through Revit and SketchUp plug-ins.
VE-Toolkits
VE-Toolkits allow users to look at energy, carbon, daylight, solar, heating and cooling loads, as well as the impact on local green rating credits. This software also takes into account the affect of solar/light penetration on energy and carbon, allowing users to understand how light pipes, atria and internal/external solar shading devices affect the performance of the building. The VE-Toolkits can be accessed via SketchUp and Revit plug-ins and gbXML.
Architectural Suites
The Architectural Suite and Architectural Suite Plus provide tools designed for use by architects from the earliest stages of the design process through to detailed design. Multiple design iterations can rapidly be assessed increasing the environmental performance of the final design. The Architectural Suite and Architectural Suite Plus are integrated around a central 3D model that connects directly with Google SketchUp, Autodesk Revit and via gbXML with other 3D design tools.
VE-Gaia
VE-Gaia offers step-by-step navigation that defines different sustainable design analysis processes by weaving a workflow through IES’ <Virtual Environment>. The software allows users to read environmental performance analysis without the help of experts.
VE-Pro
VE-Pro provides highly graphical outputs for both architects and engineers. The suite’s technical, aesthetic and reporting capabilities are updated on a regular basis.
ModelIT
At the center of IES’ integrated suite of performance analysis tools is the Shared Data Model - allowing integration across IES modules and also with CAD systems. The IES <Virtual Environment> ModelIT enables users to build a 3D model with or without CAD data.
Users can build a 3D model from scratch or from imported 2D DXF CAD data within IES’ ModelIT application. The company has worked in partnership with Autodesk Revit, Google SketchUp and Graphisoft ArchiCAD to develop plug-ins or tight connectivity between these systems, so the models can be imported directly without the need to re-build. A gbXML import function is also provided.
