The Institute of Digital Media Technology (IDMT) is a technology training and production institute setup by a group of technocrats from USA and Singapore. It is located in Bhubaneswar, the capital of the Indian state of Orissa.

To become the centre of excellence for digital technology research, development and training with core objective of making an environment-friendly, paperless planet and to create employment opportunities for the new generation.

Objectives

The objectives of the Institute of Digital Media Technology are different from other institutes. Institute of Digital Media Technology is a pilot project set up by a group IT and New Media industry professionals from Singapore and the USA. IDMT was set up with two core objectives:

*To promote paperless offices, schools, organizations and government in order to protect our only living planet.
*To promote emerging technology on digital media technology to provide an answer to the growing

The new digital technology is changing almost every aspect of our life in today’s world, whether we look at communication, work or leisure time. However, the technology is subject to perpetual change, at a rapid pace. In order to learn to live with this process of flux, we have to acquire the required skills which will enable us to adapt to future developments as well as to contrive and shape our own futures, both professional and personal. The goals of the Digital Media Technology programs are manifold:
*To create innovative and responsible forms of research and development.
*To investigate the ways and means of their utilization.
*To assess their cultural and social repercussions.
In our attempt to attain these goals, we combine digital technology and art, merge the theoretical with the practical aspects, and join the creativity with solid knowledge to reach beyond the limits of the digital world. The trend is towards a digital world, where all types of information will be captured, processed and distributed digitally. The media industry is undergoing a major transformation due to the introduction of digital technology. To address this issue, the Institute of Digital Media Technology at Bhubaneswar has planned to introduce few job oriented training programs in Digital Media Technology to its curriculum in the 2007-2008 sessions. IDMT’s new curriculum group has done extensive research and market survey and found that the digital media technology professionals are in demand and various job opportunities are available in the market. The objectives of introducing Digital Media Technology related programs are to create a pool of technology, video, art, animation, print media and multimedia related professionals to be a part of growing IT, media and entertainment sector in India and abroad. The media industry is undergoing a major transformation due to the introduction of digital technology.

The first ever animated Oriya short film, Chatura Kau, was developed at the Institute of Digital Media Technology (IDMT), Bhubaneswar, the only full-fledged Animation training and production institute of Orissa. This film was released on January 15, 2008 by the minister of IT and culture Orissa Mr. Surjya Narayan Patro at Soochana Bhavan. The Movie was appreciated by the media and the people of orissa very much. About all leading TV channels and newspaper covered it continuously for two days as breaking news. The duration of the Movie is 21 minutes. The Film is animated by IDMT's students and Directed by Mr. Bibhudatta Tripathy, Production Manager IDMT.
