Indian Astronomy or Study of Astrology - Jyothirshasthra
|
In this article I am trying to establish the truth that Indian Astronomy or the studies of Astrology efforts happened much before the 3150 BCE. I am hearing most people saying or writing that Indian Astrology is came to existence only during 5th or 6th Century (around Aryahbata's times)- which is totally nonsense. Being a strong student of Vedanta Jyothishyam, I am taught that BPHS written by Parashara (the grandson of Vasista Maharshi (3300 BCE roughly). Jyothishastra is a part of Veda system precisely known as Vedanga Jyothishya. The famous work on Bharatheeya (Indian) Astrology dates back to the times of Parashara Maharshi who existed during the times of Mahabharatha around or little before 3200 BCE. Bruhat Parashara Hora shasthra "BPHS" talks about how the planetary combinations affect the life time of an individual by using the Jathaka (Horoscope) system. It is incorrect to say that Bharatheeya Jyothshya shastra or Indian Astrology was created by using the works of Greek or Romans, which many western people claim. We can even see such wrong claims in too. Let us take a look at history of known and established facts below. Parashari is the grandson of Vasista Maharshi- the teacher to Rama. Sage Parashara's father is Shakti (son of Vasista). Vaista Maharshi's son Shakthi was killed when Parashara was a boy & hence Vasista Maharshi took care of Parahara & educated him in many Shastras like Jyothishya and Vedas. Throughout Mahabharatha or even Ramayana; any reader will come across the mention of some special dates like Solar/Lunar eclipse or Full Moon day etc. Even the writer of Mahabharatha (Vyasa) mentions about some Astrological events like Planets aligning in some fashion (may be a serial or ecliptic line) in the sky during the war of Mahabharatha. The important point is Rahu and Ketu are the mathematical nodal points on the ecliptic orbit of Moon. Ascendant node is Rahu and the descendant node is Ketu. Other celestial bodies like Earth, Sun,Moon,Mars,Mercury,Jupiter,Venus,Saturn were very well known to Bharatheeya (Indian ) Astrologers. Many western people wrongly mention that Copernicus (19 February 1473 - 24 May 1543) is the first one who discovered the existence of planets. Parashara or Vasista existed much before Copernicus around 3400-3200 BCE) before the Christian Era or BCE. So for Bharatheeya (Indian) Astrologers, the existence of planets like Sun,moon, mars, mercury, jupiter, venus, saturn was known as BPHS mentions about the nature of the planets in BPHS. Many western people wrongly translated the Sanskrit word "Graha" as planets and propagated that Bharatheeya Vedic Jyothishya system is wrong. In Vedic Astrology Rahu and Ketu are called Grahas, which are not the real physical objects but the mathematical nodal points. Some cunning Western person or a less knowledgeable person wrongly translated Navagrahas as Nine planets where people believed this. However "Navagraha" means Nine points of importance mostly occupied by heavenly bodies like moon. Nava means nine. Graha means place of occupancy or place of some physical or logical occupancy. I hope going further readers will be able to clearly understand what is the meaning of Rahu & Ketu. It is very important to note that in Greek or Roman Astrology, there is no mention of Rahu or Ketu. They never even knew about Rahu or Ketu mathematical noel points. Clearly Bharatheeya (Indian) Jyothishya is not derived from Greek or Roman like many Western people propose wrongly. Also it is well known fact that many Western people or so called Scholars intentionally neglected to mention the existence of Bharatheeya (Indian) systems and many even tried to destroy the monuments or the stone tablets; to establish the lineage of Jesus Christ. They wanted the world to believe in the order of Christ and even went to prepare the Calendars based on AD/BC etc. However such wrong efforts are spoiled by monuments of Ashoka (The great Mauryan king reigning from around 269 BCE), Rock edicts etc. There is no doubt that "Copernicus the great mathematician and astronomer who formulated a model of the Universe that placed sun rather than the earth as the centre of the Solar system or Universe known at that time". References # http://www.gktoday.in/asokas-edicts-inscriptions/#Major_Rock_Edict_XIV # http://www.gktoday.in/asokas-edicts-inscriptions/#Major_Rock_Edict_XIV # "Roof over Ashoka rock edicts in Junagadh crashes".
