Centre of Expertise - Industrial Biotechnology and Biocatalysis or InBio.be is active in the field of industrial biotechnology and is located in Ghent, East Flanders, Flanders, Belgium It is a part of the Department of Biochemical and Microbial Technology of Ghent University. Prof. dr. ir. Wim Soetaert is the leader of this centre.
Research
Research at InBio.be focuses on the synthesis of enzymes, fine and bulk chemicals through fermentation and biocatalytic processes.
* Screening for new microbial production strains (bacteria, yeasts and fungi)
* Metabolic engineering and modelling
* Genetic engineering for the improvement of production strains
* Development and optimisation of fermentation processes
* Down-stream processing for the isolation and purification of bio-products
Services
InBio.be has a tradition of collaboration with industrial partners, through joint Research & Development projects. The range of products and developed technologies cover the fields of food ingredients and additives, fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals, enzymes, bio-colorants, flavours and aroma compounds, fine and bulk chemicals as well as solvents and biofuels.
